Kingsmere is an existing Seniors Residence on a 5.1 acre site in Alliston, Ontario. Sienna Senior Living asked Murphy Partners to explore the re-development options to transform the property into a mixed use facility by adding long term care beds to the site.

The site constraints and available vacant area allowed only a narrow footprint for any new extension to the existing building. This led Murphy Partners to propose two options:

Option 1: Small Home Units with 80 LTC Beds

A new 6-storey addition, with a Small Home RHA concept of 16 beds each. Associated spaces include dining, spa, and support services on each floor. This includes a partial renovation of communal spaces on the ground floor of the Seniors Residence to provide a dedicated arrival entry.

This option provides 80 fully compliant suites in a new addition.

Option 2: Renovate and convert the entire existing 6-storey Retirement Residence into long term care and add a new 6-storey long term care building beside per Option 1 above .

For this option, Murphy Partners conducted a detailed review of the existing plans for the seniors apartment units to maximize new LTC beds and amenities, while keeping the renovations to a minimum. This scheme proposed 209 fully compliant beds in the combined existing building plus new addition.
